Hummmmmmmmm
What a week it has been!!!! The hum of generators could be heard for miles around. We survived our first power outage that lasted from 1:30 Monday morning until Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. We had lost all our snow and had temps near 50, but Mother Nature was not yet finished with winter. Our area got hit with LOTS of ice, which is not good for power lines!! When we got up Monday morning it was pretty cold already in the house and no power had Nate wishing he had already hooked up the generator that was generously given to us by his dad and step-mom. While trying to figure out what we would do after Nate called Consumers and was told that power would not be restored until Wednesday evening his mom and step-dad showed up. They had been out checking the damage and let us know that they too did not have power, but with the generator they had heat. So we packed up the kids and that is where we (the kids and I) stayed until Wednesday. Nate and his dad worked to get our generator hooked up, but bad news was in store. The generator was large enough to run everything in our house except our furnace, so that meant no heat for who knows how long. I called my dad to see if he might have any leads on a bigger generator. Yes, my uncle had one that he was not using, our hopes raised again. We met my dad at his house only to find the garage door lock to be filled with ice. My uncle also did not have power so we had fun trying to heat the lock/key to get into the garage in the dark. Finally success, we kept our fingers crossed as we approached the generator in the corner of the garage. Our hopes were crushed again, it was bigger, but not big enough. So Nate and I then headed for Menards to pick up some electric heaters, he was worried about pipes freezing. We made it with about 10 minutes until they closed. Nate stayed at our house with the dog, poor guys the house got down to about 48 degrees at night. Nate spent the next day trying to find a bigger generator no luck and the restoration of power kept getting pushed further out, now we were being told Friday at 11 p.m. So we had settled in for the long haul. The kids enjoyed spending the night with nana and papa, but by the end were ready to get home to sleep in their own beds. The ice is finally starting to melt and by Sunday it is suppose to be near 50 again, crazy weather!! We are just glad the power came back quicker than estimated and to be getting back to some sort of normal. Hopefully I have school next week, most schools in the county missed all week of school.
Sutton's quote during the power outage: I went to the closet to get clothes for the boys and Sutton turned the light switch on. I told him that the lights would not come on because we had no power. His response "I guess we need to change the batteries".

Sneezy
We had a bit of a warm up last week making the snow just right for snowman building. It was a good thing we built him when we did because by the next day or two all the snow melted. When I asked Leland what we should name the snowman he decided we should name him Sneezy after a snowman from the book Sneezy The Snowman. Sutton wasn't into helping much. It is hard to see from the pictures, but he was having more fun running and body slamming the poor snowman.

Tip Up Time
Tip up started off Friday night with the tradition of red light run around the lakes. We rode our snowmobiles with the boys. Saturday the boys enjoyed watching the dirt bike races and eating elephant ears! We also went to the township hall and played some interesting games. The boys were only disappointed about not being able to ride dirt bikes on the ice. We had so much snow that it was not possible to clear a track for them.

Snow Ice Cream
The boys made snow ice cream awhile back at day care so we decided we would give it a shot at home. I asked Leland what was in it. He told me all the correct ingredients with almost the exact amounts, I was impressed!! I wasn't sure how it would taste, but it actually wasn't bad. I think Sutton ended up with more yellow sprinkles than ice cream!!

The Proof Is In The X-Rays
Sutton had his 6 month hip check up on January 14th. After reviewing the X-rays all the doctor said was "Dr.Zaltz was right". Dr. Zaltz has offered us a second opinion a couple of times. Nate and I are so glad that we decided to cancel the surgery that Sutton's doctor recommended he have last summer because at this point both of his hips are looking great!!! She wanted his acetabular index to be 26 or less and he is now at 24 on the right and 26 on the left. She was so pleased with how things look that she even stretched out our next visit to 9 months!! Now we will just continue to pray that he doesn't regress because she always reminds us that boys with hip dysplasia are unpredictable, but for now things are hippy!

The Blizzard Of 2011
Last Wednesday we got hammered with the most snow that we have seen in a very long time. The storm shut down all schools in the county for 2 days. The only life we saw on our road, other than the neighbor, were our neighborhood deer. I got to stay home one of those days, we had lots of fun. I am not sure exactly how much snow we got, but from the pictures you can see that the snow was up to Winston's belly. That dog loves the snow as much as the kids do!! The snow was so deep that our sleds did not work that great so the kids ended up playing on the slide attached to the swing set and with their heavy equipment. We also scooped up plenty of the fresh stuff to make some tasty snow ice cream once we got back inside.
