Spring Has Finally Sprung!!

We are finally starting to see signs of Spring!!

Batter Up

Leland had his first tee ball practice this week. He is one of the smallest guys on the team. At home we have only practiced hitting the ball, he has never ran any bases. After he would hit the ball he thought he should run after it to get it instead of running to the base, silly boy. He usually learns quickly, but these seems to be a hard concept for him to grasp!! He also experienced his first hit in the chest with the ball. He handled it well, he didn't even cry. I am sure his games will be a good time!!

From Donuts, To Egg Hunts, To Ribs

We had a full day on Easter. The boys enjoyed some healthy donuts for breakfast. After church they enjoyed the church Easter egg hunt (more sugar). We then had lunch with Nates moms side of the family. Later that day Nate's dad and step-mom came over. They brought ribs, one of our favorites!!

Where Did The Time Go?

Leland will be starting kindergarten in the fall. He is way more excited about this than I am!!! We went to kindergarten round up a few weeks ago. I was only able to get one picture because he was not with me for most of the time. He was excited because he ran into an old friend from a previous daycare. When I met back up with Leland for our bus ride he told me "I like those ladies (referring to teachers), they are so nice". Before we even made it back to the car he had already picked what teacher he wants to have.

Leland's Get Rich Quick Scheme

Leland ended up losing the second tooth involved in the play date accident on Monday. It seemed that it was getting better for a couple days, but then it got really swollen and went down hill from there. Unfortunately the dentist had to numb him (of course this was the worst part). The good news was that it only took about 5 seconds to pop the tooth out. The dentist said that it was only being held in by the gum. Once again Leland surprised me with how he handled it. I think I was more nervous about going again then he was!!

Future Mechanic

Ever since Nate mentioned changing the oil in the dirt bikes Leland has been bugging him to do so. Finally this past weekend Nate decided to get the job done. Leland was right there the entire time with wisdom and questions. Sutton on the other hand was more interested in playing.

The New Look In Kapnick Dirt Bike Riding

Even though the weather hasn't really warmed up too much yet Nate thought it was time to get Leland his summer riding helmet. Sutton's helmet has a shield that comes off so he was able to just get a pair of goggles.

Baseball Anyone?

While Leland has not officially started practicing for baseball he is officially signed up. We are just waiting for our phone call to learn when he will actually start. So in the mean time it is practice time with dad and Sutton. Sutton is always the catcher. You know when Sutton has had enough player catcher when you hear him shout "I'm tired of chasing balls". Sometimes it is hard being the youngest.

Doing What Boys Do Best

A couple weekends ago my Uncle Tim helped us clean up some dead trees, move some dirt, and burn our 5 year old burn pile. While using his back hoe he made several areas of fresh dirt, which was an automatic magnet for the boys. On Saturday of this weekend it was a little chilly. However the very next day was 80 and sunny, hence the difference in the clothing attire. On Sunday due to the warmth we had a bucket of water for the dogs, again another magnet for the boys. They enjoyed washing rocks and of course Leland could not resist putting his head in.

One Last Spring Break Outing

Our last official spring break outing was to one of Leland's favorite places: the library, more specifically Aunt Kay's library (as Leland calls it). She was nice enough to meet us there so we could check some things out. You have to be a city resident to use the library. By this time in the week Sutton was so out of routine and miserable due to no naps that we didn't stay long. Thankfully when we did get him he took a much needed nap.

Play Date Mishap

We had a play date with some new friends on Wednesday. I work with their mom (Amy) at one of my schools, she teaches kindergarten. They live just down the road and their oldest boy (Eddie) is just a bit older than Leland, but they will go to kindergarten together in the fall. Their youngest (Levi) is only 12 days older than Sutton. They had only been here about an hour when Leland and Levi had a head on collision. The result, Leland lost a bottom tooth!! It was hanging on by a thread, but I just couldn't pull it out so Leland being so brave finished pulling it out. For quite awhile after it came out he walked around sucking/chewing on a wash cloth. He finally gave it up, but by then it was pretty yucky. Then he wouldn't eat lunch. After our company left we called the dentist and they wanted to see him. An x-ray revealed that the tooth had broken off, so a big piece was still left in his gum. It needed to be removed. The dentist offered nitrous, but I opted to try it the conventional way first. Leland never having had any dental work done before had no idea what was about to happen so that probably helped. It was definitely not enjoyable for him, but he was a trooper. The dentist was able to get the piece out without bothering the tooth next door, which is also very loose. The dentist wants to give it some time to see if it will tighten back up. It was bleeding pretty bad when we left the dentist office so they had him bite on a piece of gauze. When I offered to take it out he didn't want to, he was afraid it would hurt. So he rode all the way home with the yucky gauze in his mouth, he even fell asleep with it there. Thankfully when we got home he agreed to eat and he has been eating ever since. All in all Leland did very well and was excited the next morning to find $5.00 left for him.

Independent Layers

Our furnace was out of order from Sunday to Wednesday, so it was a bit chilly in the house. To stay warm we dressed in layers. I had asked Sutton to get dressed while I went in to brush my teeth. When I came out he was dressed, but the order was a bit out of sequence. It is hard to tell from the picture, but he had his long sleeve t-shirt on over his sweatshirt. Of course he would not entertain the idea of allowing me to help him fix this so he wore his shirts like this all day!!

Rootin' Tootin' Leland

Leland has been busy making guns out of his building blocks these days. Now he just needs a holster so he doesn't have to stuff them in his pockets.

Hands On

Our spring break week started out with a trip to the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum. A friend from high school who I have reconnected with and her son joined us (Holly and Adam). The boys thought it was cool to have Adam sit in the back with them between their car seats, good thing he is skinny!!! At the museum the boys had fun exploring all the exhibits. I think Sutton enjoyed the ambulance the most and Leland thought it was neat climbing the fire mans pole.
