Everything Is Bigger In Texas!

We decided to venture out of our normal destination list for spring break this year and landed in Galveston Texas.  I have to say this was one of our best trips ever!!!!  Everyday was packed with something new to see and do.  Of course we spent plenty of time at the beach (we rented a condo on the gulf) and the pool.  Our beach time included plenty of treasure hunting.  The one hermit crab the boys are holding was found by me one morning while jogging.  While jogging I am always on the lookout for cool shells.  When I picked up this particular shell I was surprised to find the crab!!  Of course I was only 1 mile into my jog so I had to carry him for a lot longer than I would have chosen to, but I knew the boys would be excited that I had found him.  Galveston is the second busiest harbor in the U.S so we got to see plenty of large ships passing by and coming into port.  Galveston also has a dock for cruise ships.  We took a boat guided harbor tour and were able to see some dolphins.  One night while eating dinner on the pier we got to watch the Coast Guard perform a practice drill.  Another day we took the ferry to Crystal Island.  We spent the day at the beach and driving on the beach.  In the area we stayed you can drive right out on the beach and drive for miles and miles.  We toured a ship and a submarine that were used in World War II.  The downtown area was nice and we enjoyed a horse carriage ride.  We enjoyed a Houston Astros game. We sat a couple rows up from right field and a few seats over from the Astros bull pen.  There was an Astros fan who kept us laughing the whole game with his teasing of a Cleveland Indian player.  When we were getting ready to leave the kids were looking into the bull pen and a girl sitting near there asked if they wanted a signed ball.  The answer was of course yes!  She happened to know one of the players and had him sign a ball for the kids!  The kids were always quick to point out things that were different from other places we have visited.  They noticed right away that all the houses were up on stilts, some taller than others!!  They saw lots of cactus.  We also saw several different types of jelly fish that we had never seen before.  Our last night there we went out on the beach after dark to watch the crabs running around.  We saw plenty of live action with this!!  Of course no vacation would be complete without a round of putt putt!
