Engaging Our Brains

We did not do as many science experiments this summer as last summer, but we did manage to squeak in a few.  We first tried to see if we could make an egg float by mixing different items in the water.  We only got the egg to barely come up off the bottom of the cup.  Next we set out to see if we could bend water with a balloon.  We learned that with the help of static electricity we could!  Lastly we set out to see if we could get a hard boiled egg into a bottle that's opening was too small.  We learned that by changing the air pressure inside the bottle by changing the temperature that you can indeed get an egg to squeeze into a space that is too small.  We changed the temperature by putting matches into the bottle.  Sutton wondered if we could change the temperature by adding hot tap water.  We tried this too.  The egg did go down a little!
