The boys and I recently set out to answer this question. To do this we used only water and a bag of skittles. We dissolved 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 skittles each in a different jar each with the same amount of water. Once all the skittles were dissolved we poured the water into one jar starting with the most dissolved skittles to the least. This part proved to be tricky, you needed to be extremely slow. Some of our water stacked on top as it was suppose to, but some of it also mixed together. So we did learn that you can in deed change the density of water!
