Touring Hamburg

Our morning started with another traditional German breakfast with fresh bread bought at the bakery by Nate and Christoph.  We were then on our way to the train station to head to Hamburg.  After a 2 hour train ride we arrived.  We headed to our hotel to drop off our luggage then set out to explore the city.  Our first stop was at the oldest church in Hamburg.  All of us set out to climb the more than 500 stairs to the top of the steeple, but only Christoph and Tom made it.  It was then time for an ice cream treat, yum!  We then decided we should grab a meal before heading to our next destination.  We ate at a river front restaurant near where the locks filled and emptied.  Ina and I ate a restaurant on the same river when I visited her in 1995!  Sutt had spaghetti, Lee  had a pasta and steak dish, Nate had a steak, and I had a stir fry and rice dish.  During our meal the kids worked on learning the German words for plate, knife, fork, and spoon.  Our next stop:  Miniatur Wunderland, the world's largest model railway.  Inside a humongous display of trains and other models such as airplanes and cars.  The displays replicated a variety of landscapes from around the world and were interactive.  After our time there we ventured for a walk through the old driving tunnel which goes under the Elbe River.  After a small snack Ina headed back to the hotel via an interesting taxi ride with all the kids while Christoph, Nate, and I headed to the Reeperbahn red light district for a look around and some sleep good drinks.  After a taxi ride back it was time to call it a night!
